28/09/13 Ladies 2nds v Lymm 4ths

Lymm Ladies 4ths 1                        Whitchurch Ladies 2nds  0

The ladies were in good spirits following last week’s 4-0 victory and took a number of new faces away to Lymm. Making their debut were Rebecca Thomas and Laura Chester’s.

Rebecca and Jayne Williamson made a strong defense and were able to keep Lymm at bay all through the first half, providing a good foundation for Whitchurch to build their attack. Chances rained upon the forwards, and Tracey Dulson managed to put the ball inches either side of the goal, but Whitchurch were never able to put the ball on target.

The second half saw Lymm rally and their experience showed as they were able to retain possession for longer and through the use of their substitutes were able to whittle down Whitchurch’s defense. Eventually Lymm’s pressure upon the Whitchurch goal saw its reward. Despite the efforts of Laura and Cath Gresty in closing down the midfield, Whitchurch were not able to push their breaks into Lymm’s D and were unable to find the equalizer.

28/09/13 Ladies 1st team v Winnington Park 1st

Whitchurch ladies 1st5      Winnington Park 1st  1

Whitchurch bounced back after two losses with a well deserved win at home against Winnington Park.

Whitchurch ladies started the match stronger and settled into the match with long spells of possession. After 20 minutes Whitchurch took the lead as Sarah Field hit the ball past the goalkeeper. Winnington Park came back with two penalty corners but some very strong defending by Whitchurch saw them keep their lead at the end of the first half.

Whitchurch were ready for the second half and soon doubled their lead from a penalty corner after an Emma Harper’s strike deflected off the goalkeeper and converted by Heidi Groom. Whitchurch then relaxed and began to play the fluid attacking hockey which makes them so dangerous when the confident and this saw Sarah Field secure another two goals. Nikki Ellis scored the final goal after an interchange of passing with Donna Reynolds. Whitchurch were punished for a lapse of judgement in the dying minutes that saw Winnington grab a consolation goal last goal.

Sarah Field was awarded player of the match after scoring a hattrick. Whitchurch Ladies would like to thank all supporters that cheered them onto victory.

Whitchurch Ladies 1st play away this Saturday 5th October 2013 against Wrexham 1st team push back 12:00pm. All welcome to come and support at Glydnwr Sports Centre.

21/09/13 Ladies 1st team vs Northop Hall 1st

Northop Hall 1st 5   v   Whitchurch Ladies 1st   4

Whitchurch travelled away to Northop Hall this weekend and were hoping after a recent victory in the Cheshire tournament to secure a win away.

Whitchurch took the game to Northop Hall from the beginning and were rewarded when Lisa Sullivan pounded the ball into the goal from the top of the Dee.

Whitchurch continued to attack and good passing from Sullivan and the runs of Jo Dimelow down the right saw Nikki Ellis and Sarah Field (2) score three further goals giving Whitchurch 1-4 lead at half time.

Northop Hall did not take their first half performance lying down and quickly responded with two goals in 5 minutes. Whitchurch lost their momentum from the first half and found it hard to keep Northop Hall from running at them with pace.

Northop Hall grew from strength to strength and scored two more goals in twenty minute period before Whitchurch rallied towards the end of the match in an attempt to get a draw but it was a too little too late.
