Cheshire Blues Ladies 1s 0 Whitchurch Ladies 1s 3
After a disappointing start to the season with their first game against Wilmslow 3s conceded, Whitchurch ladies 1s were up for a tough match with Cheshire blues who finished just above them last season.
From the first whistle Whitchurch battled to keep possession, passing well but sometimes not strong enough as Cheshire blues, an experienced team, intercepted quickly, also having a solid defence they blocked many attempts on goal.
Mid fielders Molly Fry, Lisa Sullivan and Captain Cath Gresty stopped many advances from the Blues.
The few that entered the Whitchurch dee were cleared well by Hayleigh Busby, Hermione Ball and Tilly James. Keeper Bea Taylor was called on a few times to save every ball.
There was great triangular play up both wings by Hayley Kellet , Jasmine Williams and the mid fielders.
A run of short corners came for Whitchurch but unfortunately Cheshire blues had a solid defensive line.
0-0 at half time and a well earned break.
Whitchurch came back onto the pitch with just as much pressure and persistence. And all became worth it as Cheshire blues began to run out of steam. A break in their wall allowed Georgia Munro to get Whitchurch on the score sheet, beating 2 defenders then slotting past the keeper. Heads went down for the Cheshire blues.
Beginning to tire themselves, but wanting more, Munro received a ball high up the pitch and scored a 2nd.
Pressure kept coming from wings Poppy Huxley and Rachel Chesters.
Balls were passed in from Gresty and Fry and eventually Munro caught a deflection from Kellet. 3 -0 up and 5 minutes to go, Whitchurch continued fighting all the way to the end.
Fantastic win for Whitchurch ladies 1s.
They play a home game next week against Deeside 3s.
