The ladies had a week off but will return to action next week.
Llandudno Men 2nds 8 Whitchurch Men 2nds 2
The Whitchurch Men 2nds travelled to Llandudno for a hard fought, yet enjoyable, game of hockey. The game started at quick pace, Llandudno keen to press hard and put pressure on the Whitchurch defence. It wasn’t long before Llandudno made use of an extra player to find their way into the Whitchurch D to start scoring.
The 2nds battled hard to defend attack after attack with Doug
Buckeridge, Richard Lea, Mark Sugden and Aaron Shackleton resolute in their efforts in defence.
A Whitchurch goal came from a piece of brilliant individual hockey
from Felix Jeffrey’s, which saw him run the entire length of the left
wing. The ball controlled, one handed on his reverse stick, to attack
the Llandudno Goal keeper who saved the initial shot on goal; for Ben Kimberley to retrieve the rebound and reverse stick the ball into the goal.
At half time the score was 5 – 1. The second half was a similar
affair. Whitchurch pulled back Ryan Murtagh to help shore up a hard
working defensive unit; which was brilliantly supported by the agile
Neil Jones in goal.
The second half ended 3 – 1 after forwards Aaron Swain and Jake Wood applied pressure to the Llandudno goal to be awarded a short corner – expertly executed by Ryan Murtagh.
It was a great effort from all the players in the Whitchurch 2nds, who battled hard throughout the entire game. If Whitchurch were able to field eleven players the score line would have been very different. Man for man Whitchurch matched the Llandudno team.
